September doesn’t mean starting over 💛
There’s something about September that feels like a reset.
Not quite a new year, but close.
Summer starts winding down. The kids go back to school. Schedules become a little more predictable. We start looking at our calendars again and realizing that maybe it’s time to get back to some of the things we let slide over the summer.
Our routines.
Our movement.
Our sleep.
Our meals.
Our time for ourselves.
And if you’re feeling that pull right now, I want to remind you of something:
You don’t have to start over.
You just have to come back.
Summer is meant to be a little less structured. Maybe you travelled, stayed up later, skipped a few workouts, spent more time at the lake, ate the ice cream, or simply found that your usual routine didn't fit into your life the way it normally does.
That’s okay.
You haven't undone everything.
Your body hasn't forgotten how to move. Your strength hasn't disappeared. And you certainly don't need to punish yourself for enjoying your summer.
September is an invitation to find your rhythm again.
Start smaller than you think you need to.
One of the biggest mistakes we make when getting back into a routine is trying to do everything at once.
Five workouts a week.
Meal prep.
Early mornings.
No sugar.
More water.
More steps.
Bed by 9.
A completely organized life by Tuesday.
And then, inevitably, real life happens.
Instead, ask yourself:
What is one thing I can realistically commit to this month?
Maybe it's coming to yoga once a week.
Maybe it's getting back to Pilates.
Maybe it's booking your classes ahead of time so they actually happen.
Maybe it's simply putting yourself back on your own calendar.
Consistency doesn't have to look impressive.
It just has to be repeatable.
Your routine should support your life — not become another thing you have to keep up with.
This is something I think about a lot at Move... Movement isn't supposed to be another source of pressure.
You don't need to come to class because you "should."
You don't need to earn your food.
You don't need to make up for what you did — or didn't do — over the summer.
You come because you want to feel stronger.
Because your back feels better when you move.
Because you sleep better.
Because you like how you feel after class.
Because an hour spent taking care of yourself can change the rest of your day.
And sometimes, honestly, because you just need an hour where nobody needs anything from you.
That counts too.
Give yourself a little grace while you find your rhythm.
The first class back might feel harder than you remember.
You might be a little sore.
Your balance might feel off.
You might wonder how you ever used to do that particular pose.
That's normal.
Don't mistake rusty for out of shape.
Your body is adaptable. Give it a little time.
Start where you are today, not where you think you "should" be.
And please don't compare your September body to someone else's September body — or to your own body from six months ago.
Your job is simply to meet yourself where you are.
September doesn't need to be a transformation.
Maybe it can just be a return.
A return to moving your body.
A return to making plans with yourself.
A return to routines that make you feel grounded.
A return to doing something that is just for you.
And if you've been away from Move for a while, know that you don't need to explain where you've been.
Just come back.
We'll meet you exactly where you are.
Here's to a September that feels less like starting over and more like coming home to yourself.
